Bulbfields River Cruise
Discover the
vibrant, colourful bulbfields of the Netherlands with one of our
Holland river cruises. The delightful Dutch and
Belgian waterways welcome you on a tour of the medieval cities and
picturesque towns that line the banks of these tranquil rivers.
Cosmopolitan cities such as Amsterdam and Antwerp await with their
famous monuments and intriguing history, whilst smaller towns and
quaint villages provide an even closer look at the culture and
traditions in this remarkable part of the world.
Our Holland river cruises stop up to three times per day, giving guests on board plenty of time to become acquainted with their surroundings and either explore the port of call independently or join in a pre-arranged shore excursion. When the ship docks you can also savour the destination by relaxing on board, such as on the sundeck with the fresh air or in the panorama lounge. Popular shore excursions include tours of the cosmopolitan and old cities that the Netherlands are famous for, culturally rich tours of museums and trips to areas of awe-inspiring natural beauty.

One of the most popular places to visit on an
excursion whilst enjoying a Holland river cruise is the Keukenhof
Gardens located close to Amsterdam. These breathtaking bulbfields
are filled with millions of striking flowers every year, including
the tulips for which this part of the world is renowned. Each bulb
is planted by hand and when the gardens open to the public in
spring guests are greeted with a multi-coloured sea of pretty
flowers in hues of pink, red, purple, yellow and lilac.
As you sail down the peaceful waterways on our Holland river cruises you may stop in the world-famous city of Amsterdam. Many tourists come to Amsterdam to experience the spectacular bulbfields, but this historic city also has other treats to offer. The numerous canals that run throughout the city provide a unique viewpoint and the many charming cafés that run along the banks offer the perfect chance to watch the world pass by. Other landmarks and must-see sights include the Westerkerk Church, which has the tallest spire in the city, and the Anne Frank House.
Many Dutch river cruises stop in Antwerp, a vibrant city situated in Belgium. This cultural melting pot has a variety of incredible monuments and the city is renowned for its art and fashion with many famous artists having resided or studied in Antwerp. There are many museums and churches in the city that reflect the artistic heritage, such as Ruben's Baroque style architecture and his paintings that are housed in The Cathedral of our Lady and St. James' Church. A sightseeing tour highlights all the most famous and beautiful parts of Antwerp and is a popular excursion to take whilst you are in the city.
We use a variety of ships on our Holland river cruises, which all have a range of excellent facilities on board. Each ship is designed especially for navigating rivers whilst offering guests comfort and convenience. The ships offer all the amenities of a hotel but with fresh river air to invigorate you. Spend all day long sightseeing from the sundeck or the panorama lounge before relaxing in the bar. The food onboard is also of excellent quality with gourmet breakfast buffets in the morning, delicious main courses, desserts and soups at lunch and a four-course dinner in the evening.
As with all Great Rail Journeys' holidays a professional Tour Manager accompanies each tour. Our river cruises to see the bulbfields begin with the Eurostar service to mainland Europe at St Pancras International. Rail travel complements many of our river cruises as the two modes of transport blend so well. The scenic rail travel allows you to sit back and relax on a comfortable train whilst enjoying the ever-changing scenery and chatting to friends, family and fellow passengers or simply enjoying a book. Cruising on the river cruise ships is equally relaxing with the opportunity to spend all day long sightseeing.
Your Tour Manager ensures everything runs smoothly, from the moment you step on the first train to the moment you arrive back in the United Kingdom. Whilst you are away there is nothing to worry about, giving you peace of mind from the moment you leave your home. Each of our Holland river cruises begin at St Pancras International where you will first meet your Tour Manager. Your Tour Manager is there when you need them, offering as much or as little guidance as you would like. Spend each minute as you wish on one of our Dutch river cruises.
