Seine River Cruises

Seine river cruisesDiscover mesmerising urban landscapes and the breathtaking scenery which inspired some of the world's greatest artists on an elegant river cruise. Historic ports of call, gastronomic delights and the twinkling lights of Paris are just a few of the highlights of Seine river cruises. The famous waterway navigates along the Seine Valley, winding through a diverse landscape of epic forests, endless orchards and lush marshlands - offering panoramic views of France's heartland. The twisting and looping route of the valley allows Seine river cruises to visit iconic cities as well as lesser known regions of Normandy. This means that during one voyage guests can experience the sophistication and romance of Paris, the rustic charm of Melun and see the garden that played muse to many of Claude Monet's masterpieces.

The banks of the river are an attraction in themselves as they transform from rural wilderness into pretty townscapes, where Gothic architecture and half-timbered houses adorn the streets along with vintage boutiques, glamorous cafés and elegant gardens. There are also many iconic landmarks and world-famous monuments such as the Notre Dame Cathedral which can be enjoyed from the unique vantage point of a Seine River cruise.

One of the highlights of all Seine river cruises is Paris, the city of love. Throughout the day and night the splendid design of the city makes sailing along the Seine an unforgettable experience. There are a total of 32 bridges looping over the river, all with a rich history and their own unique tale to tell. The whole city is like an open air museum, with art and history scattered throughout its streets and parks. Admire the many fountains on a leisurely stroll or sit on a bench and enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the French capital. There is a selection of shore excursions available on many Seine river cruises which will introduce you to the city's most renowned sights. A number of our cruises sail into Paris at dusk, when guests can witness the silhouette of the Eiffel Tower against a picturesque skyline.

Experience Seine river cruisesEvery day of a river cruise brings new sights and experiences, offering its guests an in-depth look at the world famous culture of France. At many of the ports of call that are visited during a Seine river cruise guests have the option of exploring independently or joining shore excursions (additional cost on selected itineraries). Each itinerary has a range of different excursions, which have been carefully selected to introduce guests to the cultural and natural highlights of the places that their Seine river cruise calls at. Examples of possible shore excursions include city and cathedral tours or trips to museums and tours of historical châteaux.

All day can be spent admiring the passing scenery from the deck of the cruise ship, or whilst relaxing in the comfort of a panoramic lounge. The ships have been specifically built for river cruising which means that picture windows have been used to capture the surrounding beauty of the places that they visit. Seine river cruises are aboard smaller, more intimate vessels than ocean cruises, which means that guests can enjoy a friendly and relaxing atmosphere on board. Every river cruise ship boats a generous lounge, a bar, a library and an elegantly appointed restaurant.

During all Great Rail Journeys Seine river cruises guests are served delectable cuisine that rivals the quality of local restaurants. Breakfast is a buffet of pastries, eggs, fresh fruit, cheese and bread among with a variety of other dishes. A full menu of several courses is served for lunch with a light alternative such as salad available. In the evening guests are treated to a multi-course gourmet menu of international or French dishes, all complemented by a selection of wines.
