Thames River Cruise

Thames river cruisesRe-discover the breathtaking beauty of England on a sophisticated cruise along the River Thames. Beginning amid the pretty rural countryside of southern England, the cruise weaves through lush pastoral landscapes to the bright lights of London. During your Thames river cruise you can enjoy all the sights and sounds of the capital, which is home to some of the world's most famous museums, art galleries and palaces.

Breathtaking vistas of both urban and rural landscapes provide an ever-changing backdrop of mesmerising scenery, as your Thames river cruise meanders through regions that are renowned for their natural beauty. Witness the spectacular scenery from your ship's outdoor viewing area, where you can enjoy the invigorating fresh air, or relax and watch the world pass you by in a comfortable panorama lounge. One of the most unique features of a River Thames cruise is that your ship navigates through tidal and non-tidal sections, crossing a series of locks.

Experience Thames river cruisesA highlight of your Thames river cruise will be an illuminated dinner cruise along the mighty river at night, when the unique cityscape of London is transformed with twinkling lights. The ship sails past many of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the Houses of Parliament, the Millennium Dome and Tower Bridge. During your Thames river cruise you may choose to join shore excursions to some of the capital's most renowned attractions such as the British Museum, which is home to one of the largest collections of artefacts on human culture and history in the world. Another highlight of your Thames river cruise is the mesmerising works of art within the Tate Modern.

Southern England is home to some of the grandest and most historic places in the world. During a cruise we visit one of the Queen's three residences, Windsor Palace. The highlights of the excursion will no doubt be the opulently decorated State Apartments, which are decorated with art work by Gainsborough and Rubens. During an excursion to the palace you can also visit St George's Chapel - the resting place of 10 former sovereigns and explore its picturesque grounds.

Another royal attraction is the stunning Hampton Court Palace, which is set amid 2,100 acres of picturesque parklands. The historical palace was originally built in the 16th century and boasts a striking Great Hall, which is the only remaining medieval hall in England. There is also a tour of the huge kitchen which was used to prepare grand feasts for up to 600 guests during King Henry VIII's reign. A coach excursion from your Thames river cruise can take you to Blenheim Palace in Cliveden. The stunning residence, which is listed as a World Heritage Site, is home to the Duke and Duchess of Marlborough. However the palace's main role in history was as the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

During your Thames river cruise you are free to spend your time as you wish, with the option of joining shore excursions or exploring the ports of call independently. With Great Rail Journeys, customers can explore the ancient and modern history of England in comfort aboard an elegantly-appointed cruise ship. Every vessel is home to a bar, library, lounge and a restaurant as well as a variety of additional features. The ships have a smaller, narrower design than ocean liners, which means that they are able to offer a more intimate and personal atmosphere.
