Thames Experience
Uncover the
treasures of southern England from the exceptional vantage point of
a river cruise ship. The waters of the mighty River
Thames flow from the pretty Cotswolds to the heart of
London, finally reaching the North Sea after a spectacular 210 mile
journey. From leafy countryside to the illuminated cityscape
of England's capital, the route of the renowned waterway is
enveloped by mesmerising sights that will delight and enthral you
throughout your voyage.
Cruises along the River Thames are unique as the river boasts tidal and non-tidal sections that are controlled by a total of 42 locks. Our river cruise ship has been carefully designed to navigate through low bridges and narrow locks, whilst offering panoramic views of the passing pastoral landscapes. The rich history of the kingdom can be explored during cruises along the River Thames, as its routes pass both ancient and modern monuments, from the medieval palaces of former kings to the Millennium Dome.
One of the highlights of a Thames river cruise is Windsor Castle, one of the Queen's three royal residences. The magnificent castle was built nearly 1000 years ago by William the Conqueror, making it the oldest and largest occupied castle in the world. During a tour of the castle you can explore the opulent State Apartments which are furnished with art by Rubens and Gainsborough. In the grounds of the castle you can also visit St George's Chapel, which is the resting place of 10 sovereigns. The well manicured lawns and artistically landscaped gardens of Windsor are an attraction in their own right. Stroll amid the pretty flora and admire the ponds that are decorated by lush lily pads during your shore excursion.
As the waters of the River Thames flow onwards a shore excursion to Hampton Court Palace will give you the opportunity to explore ancient architecture. The former royal residence is enclosed within picturesque parkland and formal gardens. Inside you can see the awe-inspiring Great Hall, England's last and greatest medieval hall, which is home to grand tapestries. Visitors are also able to explore the kitchen that was used to cater for up to 600 of Henry VIII's guests in the 16th century. This is one of England's greatest treasures and a must-see during any cruise along the River Thames.
The mighty waters of the River Thames then flow downstream, past rolling hills that slowly merge into the sophisticated region of Chelsea. The iconic sights of London then begin to emerge as the river navigates into the cosmopolitan city. Rediscover the capital from your river cruise ship as the River Thames winds past the Houses of Parliament and the legendary Tower Bridge. Sit back and enjoy the passing scenery in the ship's panorama lounge or out on deck, where you can enjoy an invigorating breeze as well as all the sounds of the city. An illuminated cruise down the river is a truly memorable way of seeing the city. In the evening lights transform the banks of the River Thames into a breathtaking fairytale scene.
London's wealth of history and culture means that there is always more to discover on a Thames river cruise. Shore excursions to the British Museum give you the opportunity to browse one of the world's largest collections of exhibits and artefacts about human history and culture. Part of this excursion also includes admission to the renowned Tate Modern Gallery, which is home to some of the world's most celebrated contemporary art. The National Maritime Museum is another attraction that is often visited during Thames river cruises, during your time there you can explore the Royal Observatory, the Queen's House and the Maritime Galleries.

After navigating through the capital the River Thames flows through lush countryside and farmlands to Maidenhead, finally reaching Cliveden - home to the magnificent Blenheim Palace. The striking Baroque style palace was the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill and currently the home the 11th Duke and Duchess of Malborough. The palace is listed as a World Heritage Site and set amid 2,100 acres of lush parklands that were landscaped by "Capability" Brown.
The itineraries of our Thames river cruises have been crafted to introduce you to the popular attractions of England, as well as the lesser known gems. Whilst you sail along the majestic waterway you will benefit from all the amenities of modern cruising, whilst enjoying a more intimate atmosphere than is found aboard many ocean liners.
